Cyber Resolutions for 2026, Part One: Naughty or Nice?

As the year winds down, many businesses start looking ahead to the new year — reviewing goals, wrapping up projects, and tightening up processes before heading into January. But one area that often gets overlooked during the year-end scramble is cybersecurity.

That’s why, all month long, we’re exploring the everyday behaviors that keep businesses secure… and the habits that quietly open the door for cyber threats. We’re calling it our Cyber Naughty & Nice List, and it’s designed to help you step into 2026 with stronger cyber hygiene and a more resilient IT foundation.

This first part of our Cyber Resolutions series takes a look at the habits that land organizations on the Naughty or Nice list.

This two-part blog series will walk you through practical cybersecurity lessons from 2025 and help you build smart “Cyber Resolutions” for the year ahead. Today, we’re kicking things off with a quick look at what lands a business on the Naughty List — and what gets them on the Nice one.

Naughty or Nice? A Sneak Peek

Here are two of the most common habits we see at the end of each year:

Naughty: Reusing Passwords Across Multiple Accounts

This is one of the most common — and risky — behaviors we still see in organizations.
If one account gets compromised, every other account using that password is at risk.

 Nice: Enforcing Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)

MFA adds an extra step during login to verify a user’s identity, and it blocks the vast majority of password-based attacks. If your team isn’t using MFA yet, this is the perfect resolution to put at the top of your 2026 list.

These are just two items from our Naughty & Nice List — and we’ll be revealing the later this month, right here on the blog.

Why Cyber Resolutions Matter Going Into 2026

Cyber threats don’t slow down for the holidays.
If anything, the season of out-of-office messages and end-of-year busyness makes businesses even more vulnerable.

Building a few smart habits now gives you a stronger, more secure start in January. Whether you’re a small team or a growing organization, the right cyber hygiene practices can reduce risk, protect data, and improve operational resilience.

To build stronger cyber hygiene now, explore our Managed IT Services and Cybersecurity Solutions designed to support secure year-round operations.

Coming Soon: Your Cyber Naughty & Nice Checklist

According to CISA, strong cyber hygiene practices reduce the majority of common cyber threats.

At the end of the month, we’ll be releasing the full Naughty & Nice List along with a downloadable checklist your team can use to assess your cybersecurity posture before heading into 2026.

The checklist will include recommendations for improving password practices, strengthening authentication, updating systems, testing backups, and more.

Stay tuned — Part Two arrives at the end of December.
