RCG’s Founding: Navigating the Early Days

of IT in the 1990s

The 1990s were a transformative time for technology. Windows 95 was changing how businesses operated, the internet was beginning to take hold, and Ethernet networking was connecting workplaces like never before. Amidst this wave of innovation, Paul Rouse founded what would eventually become Rouse Consulting Group (RCG) in 1995. Two years later, in 1997, Jamie Crawford joined as a partner, and together they officially launched RCG, bringing their shared vision to life.

Laying the Foundation for Innovation

Paul’s initial work in 1995 laid the groundwork for a company that aimed to revolutionize how businesses embraced IT solutions. At the time, many companies were transitioning from standalone computers to networked systems, and Paul saw an opportunity to help local businesses navigate this shift. By 1997, Jamie Crawford partnered with Paul, and together they officially founded RCG with a mission to provide tailored IT services and empower businesses to adopt new technologies confidently.

The Early IT Landscape

The IT world of the 1990s looked very different from today. Desktop computers were becoming staples in offices, and businesses were just beginning to see the potential of the internet. Networking technologies like Ethernet were enabling teams to collaborate more effectively, but they also brought challenges in security, maintenance, and infrastructure.

From setting up networks to ensuring systems ran smoothly, RCG quickly became a trusted partner for local businesses. Paul and Jamie’s shared vision focused on building strong client relationships, delivering innovative solutions, and helping businesses adapt to a rapidly changing tech environment.

Pioneering in the Face of Change

One of the defining aspects of RCG’s early years was their ability to adapt to rapid change. As the internet gained traction, they worked with businesses to integrate this game-changing tool into their operations. Paul and Jamie didn’t just keep up with the pace of technology—they stayed ahead of it, helping businesses unlock the potential of emerging advancements and set themselves up for future success.

Tech Trends That Shaped the 1990s

The 1990s were marked by milestones in technology that laid the foundation for today’s digital age:

  • Windows 95: Its launch in 1995 revolutionized business operations with its user-friendly interface and networking capabilities.
  • Ethernet Networking: Connecting computers within offices transitioned from a luxury to a necessity, enabling streamlined collaboration and improved workflows.
  • The Internet Boom: By the late 1990s, the internet was transforming communication and commerce, and RCG was there to guide businesses through this revolutionary shift.
